Jim is a shareholder in the Bell & Ingram, P.S. law firm, and has practiced with the firm since his admission to the Washington State Bar in 1977.

His principal practice areas are civil litigation, other dispute resolution, real estate and property, land use, environmental law, contracts and commercial law, and Federal Indian law.

He has represented clients in diverse legal matters, including many types of general civil and commercial lawsuits; real estate development, transactions and disputes; land use and environmental matters; closure of a large Superfund site and related administrative proceedings; homeowner's association matters; business and contractual matters; banking matters; and Federal Indian law.

Jim received his undergraduate degree in Political and Social Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970, and his J.D. law degree from the University of Washington in 1977.

His honors include membership in the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic society which encourages excellence in legal education and recognizes law students who attain a high grade of scholarship. He is also a member of Phi Betta Kappa in recognition of his high scholarship attainments.

He is admitted to practice in the Washington State Bar, and before the United States District Court in the Western District of Washington, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Snohomish County Bar Association.

Jim's community involvement includes his past service on the Boards of Directors of Counterpoint, Sno-Isle Blood Bank, and Snohomish County Land Trust. He was the 2008 Volunteer of the Year for the Monroe/Sky Valley YMCA. He served as Community Campaign Chair of the Invest in Youth Campaign for the Monroe/Sky Valley YMCA in 2009 and as a Division Leader in the 2008 Invest in Youth Campaign. He is in his third year of coaching Miracle League baseball and youth tennis clinics for the Monroe/Sky Valley YMCA, and a member of its Masters Swim Team.

He enjoys tennis, swimming and bicycling.
